North Dakota Parent Teachers Association

The NDPTA works to further the well-being of children and youth in our state.

Your membership in PTA

Membership in the Parent—Teacher Association is open to anyone who believes in the mission and purposes of PTA.

Local Units: Individuals become members of local units by signing up each school year and paying their annual dues. Dues are determined by each local unit. Some individuals become members of more than one local unit. Local units elect heir own leadership to serve and support the needs of the children in their schools through activities and education enrichment opportunities. When you join a local PTA unit in North Dakota, you become a member of National PTA, North Dakota PTA and, in Fargo and Minot, a member of your local council.

Councils: The purpose of a council is leadership, support and communication for their local units. This is accomplished through annual training, monthly board meetings and citywide meetings (open to all local units within the council.) North Dakota has two units at the Council level—Minot and Fargo. These units are responsible to lead, train and communicate with the local units in Minot and Fargo. If you local unit falls in one of these two cities, you are also a member of your City/Council PTA. If you are outside Minot or Fargo and would like more information on creating a council, please contact NDPTA.

State: The purpose of the state board is to support the councils and local units with training, communication and leadership as well as promoting the works of PTA throughout the state of North Dakota, advocating for students at a local, state and federal level. The state board is made up of 17 members and includes an executive committee (President, President-Elect, Secretary, Treasurer, Pat President, VP of Leadership and VP of Membership) and various committee chairs; Membership, Membership Extension, Reflections, Bylaws, Legislative, Scholarship, Education, Health & Welfare, Parent Involvement, Male Involvement, as well as representatives from each of the two councils.

National: National PTA has an overall purpose of assuring each state has the tools, training and resources in place to promote and further the PTA mission. National PTA also has a legislative arm that furthers local resolutions that are consistent with the PTA mission and are brought forth from the local units, and voted on by the national assembly at convention.
